Founded by Fritz Hüttinger in Freiburg back in 1922, KLS Martin (as its known today) immediately focused on electromedical systems for use in high-frequency (HF) surgery. Physical therapy represented an additional, minor business line. This division was sold to gbo AG of Rimbach in 2002.
In 1990, Trumpf Maschinenfabrik (based at Ditzingen, Germany) began to acquire shares in HÜTTINGER, gaining a majority interest in 1994. As a result, the division was renamed Trumpf Medizin Systeme GmbH + Co. KG and relocated from Freiburg to Umkirch, a suburb of Freiburg, where the company is still headquartered.
In 1991, Trumpf also became a partner in the internationally active Martin Medizintechnik group of companies based at Tuttlingen. This participation proved highly successful: Together, Martin and Trumpf developed innovative electrosurgical units and a powerful series or laser units – at an unprecedented level of miniaturization.
In 2004, the company was sold to Karl Leibinger Medizintechnik (Mühlheim) and renamed KLS Martin GmbH + Co. KG. Currently, a team of 35 specialists is carrying on this successful high-tech tradition at the company’s Umkirch location.
