SonicWeld Rx - the osteosynthesis revolution
Conventional resorbable osteosynthesis techniques still represent a compromise, hampered by the inherent limitations of resorbable material. The SonicWeId Rx process takes advantage of polymer characteristics instead of adapting titanium screw designs. SonicWeld Rx is the perfect solution - stable, fast and effortless.
The SonicWeld Rx principle
A completely resorbable SonicPin Rx is inserted into a pre-drilled hole. The user activates the SonicWelder, creating ultrasound vibration while driving the pin into the pilot hole. The SonicPin penetrates into all hone cavities and welds to the resorbable plate. The SonicPin is allowed to return to a solid, then the process is complete. The result is a three dimensionally stable construct. Implant insertion takes only a few seconds and there is minimal possibility of stripping in the hone or shearing of the pin as with screw fixation.
The material
SonicPin Rx is comprised of the same material as our Resorb-X PDLLA implants. Resorb-X implants are a homogenous blend of D and L isomers of Poly Lactic Acid and is an inherently amorphous, totally non crystalline polymer.
Clinical results
Biological, mechanical and histological testing and clinical validation have proven the biocompatibility of SonicWeId Rx implants. It maintains its strength for approximately 10 weeks, and safely degrades through hydrolysis and the metabolic process.
The system components
SonicWeld Rx pins are fully compatible with KLS-Martin's Resorb-X range of plates and meshes. The product is sterile packed and labeled in an O.R. cart system.
SonicPins are loaded on to the handpiece from simple to use cartridges. All implants are easy to track, replace and identify with stickers located inside the packaging.
The Xcelsior waterbath is ideal for contouring the meshes and plates, and is very simple to sterilize and use. The cordless Battery Operated Drill (BOD) is a perfect companion product for drilling pilot holes, and is very convenient for the operating room environment.
Indications
SonicWeld Rx is indicated für fractures of the craniofacial skeleton including, but not limited to, comminuted fractures of the naso-ethmoidal and infraorbital areas, comminuted fractures of the frontal sinus wall, midface fractures and reconstructive procedures of the midface or craniofacia1 skeleton.
SonicWeld Rx is not indicated für fully load bearing situations, or for patients with conditions including blood supply limitations, insufficient quantity or quality of bone, or latent infections.
