Lag Screw Module

It is widely established that lag screw osteosynthesis in the management of mandibular fractures provides the maximum amount of fracture stabilization and compression utilizing a minimal amount of hardware in the shortest operative times. Yet the major disadvantage of the lag screw technique is that it is the most technique-sensitive of all the fixation modalities. Hence, the introduction of the new KLS-Martin Lag Screw System which simplifies the traditional technique in a completely revolutionary manner.

The KLS-Martin System provides the means to ensure accurate and predictable placement of lag screws for many mandibular fractures. The System provides instruments specifically designed to assist in the reduction and fixation of these fractures. Through use of our unique and proprietary Drill Guide, Stepped Drill Bit and Adjustable Countersink; the pilot hole, gliding hole and countersink can all be prepared with just one pass of the drill. The Drill Guide, along with its Adjustable Pointer, can also function as an external depth gauge to select the appropriate size Lag Screw. The KLS-Martin Lag Screws are of an entirely distinctive design and are composed of high strength Titanium Alloy. Our Screws feature a self-retaining center drive head, a biconcave countersink (which increases the surface area of the compression component of the screw while directing the compressive forces towards the center of the screw), a polished non-threaded gliding shaft and a single fluted self-tapping end. When utilized properly, the elegant technique developed for the KLS-Martin System will become the primary mode of rigid internal fixation for non-comminuted mandibular fractures.

The Instrumentation

Handle/Cannula
Adjustable handle to 360°
Trocar calibrated from 20mm to 40mm
Beveled end allows for proper angulation of the drill guide

Countersink
Adjustable countersink used in conjunction with stepped drill allows single step lag screw hole preparation.
Side cutting
End cutting biconcave countersink mirrors countersink of lag screws
May be used as a drilling insert

Pointer
Slides along the trocar
Adjustable from 20mm to 40mm
Centre-drive adjustment set screw
Drill guide / pointer serve as external depth gauge
Calibrated pointer ensures proper adjustment of stepped drill

Twist Drill
Stepped up from 1.7mm to 2.3mm at 15mm from tip of drill
1 Step lag screw hole preparation
Compatible with 3M, Stryker, Hall

Lag Screw
High strength titanium alloy
Centre-drive head
2.3mm diameter, 0.75mm thread pitch
Self tapping
Available in 20mm-40mm lengths; 20mm threaded length
Biconcave head helps distribute compressive forces to reduce possibilities of fracturing the near cortex.
